Visualization
Visualization
Defined as “the ability to translate information into visual models and understand the information visual models are communicating. Visualization has become a key way we cope with large data sets and make sense of the complexity of our environment.” (NML, 2011)
Real World Connection: When I go to the grocery store I have a big problem with spending too much money on certain items so I tend to track how much each item costs. The way I do that is to visually put items into categories, like eggs and milk both cost around $2. I could draw a model for you right now, but it would take way too long.
Classroom Connection: I think this literacy is related to my use of graphic organizers in my classroom. I don't need a computer to do these although there are programs that. I can have students categorize data or story elements into smaller visuals like a comic to show the most important points.
